As part of Charlotte Africa Business Week, The Afribiz Foundation is conducting a collaborative workshop, “Support Ecosystems for Small and Medium Enterprises: Africa and Americas” workshop. “This is part of Afribiz’s ongoing effort to create synergizes among ecosystems to resource and support entrepreneurs, as well as small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and developers throughout the African Diaspora,” says Lauri Elliott, Executive Director of The Afribiz Foundation.
“What we have come to learn over the years that, although the environment may be different from city to city and region to region, many institutions and communities are struggling with creating inclusive economies. At the heart of making this happen is how micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMMEs) are growing. It’s startling to realize how many local economies in developed and developing regions alike are not as diverse and inclusive as you would think,” shares Elliott.
The three-day workshop is designed to bring a common understanding of how diverse, resilient, innovative, and inclusive business ecosystems can be built locally and how these local ecosystems can be synergized to create global opportunities for members of each ecosystem.
The topics covered in the workshop include:
- Developing and sustaining SMME (small, medium, and micro enterprise) support ecosystems
- Developing SMME clusters
- Monitoring and evaluating growth of firms
- Developing collaborative capital vehicles and platforms
- Scaling enterprise growth to catalyze economic growth
- Educating firms on how to mature their ventures
- Synergizing key stakeholders in
- Action planning for synergy
The three-day workshop is being held on June 6-8, 2016 in Charlotte, NC. Attendance is by invitation only for government, private, and civil society agencies who are involved in economic development and/or support of SMMEs. The cost is $125.00.
